Rugs and carpets from this, the most famous of all weaving regions are enormously varied. From the vertical looms of the Tabriz workshops to the horizontal Belouch looms of the mountains region of the Afghan-Persian border, weaving has long been a matter of national pride in Persia (modern-day Iran, but still known as Persia in the rug world).
